The Outline Podcast Season 1

Drawing the outer edges of ideas.

Season 1: The ideas

Join Oratile Mothoagae and the Theory and History of Architecture 3 class at the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design @tutarch every Wednesday at 18h00 CAT as they discuss topics ranging from how we think about architecture to how we experience it. This 9 Part series allows students to learn and share their research interests.

Rethinking Formats of Architectural Education

Set more like conversations, the series is less formal and an extension of the theory and history studio. The Outline Podcast allows students to trace how they understand the outer edge of very complex ideas. The Outline Podcast is a teaching tool in the course that aims to assist students in clarifying their research through dialogue with one another in an exciting way.

Architecture can learn a lot from spaces outside of its high walls.

In my creative and teaching practice, I attempt to reverse a number of distorted myths about Africa, principally that there is no written history of Africa by Africans. Using the archive, I repudiate Trevor-Roper’s assumptions by providing a space, place and programme for alternative histories, forgotten stories, half-remembered myths, and new futures to be inserted into architecture.

The podcast and similar projects that I coordinated in architectural programmes in South Africa looked at different ways these alternatives find space, place and programme in the institutions.
